Hi ladies. Happy New Year. The New Year often brings thoughts of renewal and resolution. A fresh start and new beginnings. I wanted to start this New Year by looking back for a moment and pausing to remember Jasmine. Whether you knew her well or not, it is important to take time to reflect on the powerful moments that occur in our lives. They are signals to us to remind us of how precious life is, how quickly things can change and why we should remind ourselves to make the most of every waking moment.
I had the pleasure of having Jasmine as a student. She sat at the LabMid1 computer. Everyday she came to class with a big smile and a pleasant, humorous way about her. She sat next to Ashley Michel and the two of them together were hilarious.
Another thing I really appreciated about her was that she challenged me to be a better teacher. She was extremely bright, especially in math, and I wanted her to excel as much as she could. She wanted to learn and was full of life and was a perfect example of what you can make of yourself if you work hard with a smile.
If you have some thoughts or memories you would like to share please feel free. Or take a moment to reflect on these thoughts: Did the news of Jasmine cause you to reflect on what is important and perhaps change the way you see things? What are you going to do with your new beginning to make the most of your time?
When I heard that Jasmine had passed, I knew that we as a Saviour community had lost one of our brightest and most beautiful souls. I didn't know her well, but I had the same frees as her everyday, and I would be in the lunchroom the same time she was. Usually, she sat with the seniors at lunch. She was hilarious and so full of life. I remember that she was kind to everyone; on dress down days she would even complement me, though we never spoke.
ReplyDeleteWhen I got word that she had passed, along with her two sisters, I thought about her mother and how this must be life-shattering to her. I thought about how family is so important and the connections you have with your loved ones can be so strong that it is extremely painful when someone you love isn't there anymore. With this in mind, I plan to embrace the moments I have with my family and to appreciate them everyday.
The news of Jasmine caused me to realize that we never know what to expect and how life is short. I never would have thought what happened to Jasmine would ever happen to someone I knew, I am so used to these type of things on the news but having it happen to a friend made me open my eyes to see how life throws really unexpected things at you. Jasmine was always a really happy person every time we spoke, lunch was never dull with her and when she died it was after a fun night for her. Jasmine lived a happy life all the way through the end and this makes me want to do the same and take charge of things in my life and do what makes me happy this new year.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing. She was a warm presence to anyone she met. Which is a rare quality.
ReplyDeleteWhile I don't know how the fire started, the tragedy reminds me to be very careful with any electronics or candles in the house.
